Important Facts
- When answering a call from SEMS, please remember that this automated system is voice-activated - say “hello”.
- During the morning callout only, when the maximum number indicated below is reached, the substitute is disqualified from further calls for jobs that same day:
- the maximum number of Declines before disqualified is: 2
- the maximum number of Hangups before disqualified is: 2
- the maximum number of No Answers before disqualified is: 3
However, occasional teachers will be eligible to receive calls during the evening callout.
Morning Callout for same day jobs:
Monday to Friday - 6:00 a.m. until 30% of job time has elapsed
Evening Callout for jobs up to 21 days in the future:
Sunday to Thursday – from
5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
- Per OECTA Occasional Collective Agreement, Article 16:02 “Reporting Pay”,when an assignment is subject to cancellation due to school bus cancellations, please listen to the radio for updates, or use the Board’s new website feature. This will enable teachers to check on the status of transportation services during inclement weather conditions. Article 16:02 reads in part: “The parties agree that on days where an occasional teacher has been assigned a school, reports to a school, is no longer required and the assignment has been cancelled, the occasional teacher will be entitled to a half day’s pay.”
- When registering with the automated system, please select a 6-digit number that does not begin with a zero ( 0 ).
- Advise the Helpdesk when you obtain additional qualifications from the Ontario College of Teachers so that your HR file and SEMS profile can be updated.
