Award of Excellence

Purpose: To recognize the professionalism and commitment to excellence of those candidates who are nominated for the Award. To recognize the importance of the role of Occasional Teacher in Education and to celebrate an exemplary teacher.

Eligibility: This award will be open to all OECTA Ottawa Occasional Teachers both Daily Occasional Teachers and Long Term Occasional Teachers.

Nomination: To nominate a candidate for the Award, an application form must be filled out and sent to the OECTA Ottawa unit office by due date. The form must contain the nominating signatures of at least five (5) OECTA Ottawa members who may be Permanent or Occasional teachers. Included should be a description of the person being nominated giving examples of the criteria which makes him or her worthy of this award. It may also include letters of recommendation from colleagues, administrators, parents and community leaders.

Criteria to be a candidate for the Award: The person who is being nominated for this award must:

  1. show a high degree of professionalism in carrying out her/his duties.
  2. be an example of service to the school and/or the larger community.
  3. demonstrate the values that are at the heart of the Christian message.
  4. be an example of teamwork in their dealings with their students and colleagues.

Sabrina's Law

All occasional teachers MUST complete the online course, Sabrina’s Law BEFORE 1 September 2011 in order to be eligible for teaching assignments in the upcoming school year(s).

Board will record successful completion of course.
Sabrina’s Law on-line course must be taken every year.
