POINTS TO REMEMBER
Please remember:
- To leave an informative report at the
conclusion of your daily OT assignment
(what accomplished, high points of your
day, any problem areas – curriculum,
teaching supports, students, etc).
- To report any classroom problems to
someone who can help…complain
effectively!
- Never leave an OT assignment where a
student may complain to parents/guardians
concerning you, without clarifying your
position with school administration—
verbally or, preferably, in writing before
leaving the school.
- Any questions? Call 613-723-0959 or email
to occasional@oectaottawa.ca
BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT:
What you might try in the classroom.
-
Awards and certificates - use positive feedback to maintain proper student behaviour.
-
Catch them being good - focus on the good behaviour a child displays.
-
Peer pressure - learn some techniques for changing peer pressure from negative to positive.
-
Setting limits – establish general guidelines for setting limits with all children.
-
What I wish I had known when I was a new teacher – seek out valuable and effective
words of advice from experienced teachers.
- Create an age-appropriate “bag of tricks” to enhance your daily OT work, when needed.
WAYS TO PRAISE KIDS:
You don't always have to say "very good"!
-
"Now you've figured it out!"
-
"That's the best ever!"
-
"You've got that down pat!"
-
"Aren't you proud of yourself?"
-
"Good thinking!"
-
"I knew you could do it!"
-
"Sensational!"
-
"You outdid yourself today!"
-
"Nice going!"
- "
I couldn't have done better myself!"
